Barbie was born and raised in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was raised in a family of Musicians. Her father Roger Barrett was a Professor of Music at St. Cloud State University and Barbie’s Mother, Darlene Barrett, an accomplished vocal music Teacher and Vocalist. The combination produced a household of musical children. Barbie sang with her 2 sisters to form the “Barrett Sisters” Singing group.
“The Barrett Sisters performed Christmas favorites for young and old alike. Barbie played Clarinet, Piano, and also sang in choirs growing up. In the spring of 1980, Barbie made a decision to follow after Christ. As an adult, Barbie led worship for her local church. Singing became her real love.
Barbie attributes her vocal abilities from her mother Darlene. Barbie led worship in her local church as well as performing in church musicals and directing Children’s Choirs. When Dale and Nancy Zenner, Barbie’s Sister and Brother-in-law, asked her to join the Gone Fishin’ Southern Gospel Group, Barbie was thrilled and honored to be a part of such a great musical ministry.
Barbie had a desire to be a part of a Christian Singing Group and feels the Lord has fulfilled that hearts desire.
Barbie Schoenleben’s Bio
Barbie’s warmth and smile fill the stage with a wonderful light that shines brightly during her performances. Being the daughter of a vocal teacher has helped to hone her skills as an accomplished vocalist. Barbie also leads most of the choreography for the group, and states that “working with the guys on choreography is like working with circus animals”. The guys are thinking that is not a compliment.
Barbie met and fell in love with her wonderful husband Jeff Schoenleben, who also is Gone Fishin’s Sound Man. Both greatly enjoy ministering in music together. Barbie and Jeff have 2 wonderful grown children, Brittany and Jacob. It is Barbie and Jeff’s desire to lift the name of Jesus Christ and to share his Love through the ministry of Southern Gospel Music
